In this July 2014, 28-minute interview done by invitation from Stan Emert as a follow-up to my earlier, February, interview, Emert asks the questions “Is the ADD diagnosis skyrocketing?” and, “If so, how can it be explained?” In addition, I was given the opportunity to further discuss the upside and the downside of the ADHD brainset.
Note: Yes, I look tired and irritable in this video. I did not get to choose the thumbnail! That was the choice of whoever posted this video for the Rainmakers and Stan Emert. Compared to my earlier, February 2014 interview, um, it must have been a rough five months? Yes. I was verging on canceling the interview due to being really sick, but, I did my best, under the circumstances.
I was able to talk about a number of things that could not be covered in the earlier, shorter interview!
The only two video interviews I have done were created over 10 years ago. You might imagine that I would use a different and likely “more accurate” language as I have discovered new, relevant information that could influence a different choice of words than those I used in the 2014 videos.
You would be correct. What has been published since 2014 has confirmed 90% of the language I used back then. What are the differences for me now? When it concerns dopamine functionality for working memory capabilities, I have been able to confirm what I wrote about in 2013 — that tonic dopamine, as opposed to phasic dopamine activity, is the key to working memory abilities. I did not use the term “tonic” as much as I should have in the 2014 interviews. However, if you take my recommended deeper dive into my 2013 book, you will find relevant information about how optimal (not below or above optimal) tonic dopamine is the key to working memory capacity. Since 2014, I have been referring to “tonic” dopamine as “free-roaming” dopamine.
