I confess.
I can be discouraged and driven into silence.
The reigning medical, psychological, coaching, insurance, pharmaceutical, pharmacist, DEA, NIDA, traditionalists, licensing board powers, and rampant misinformation from sources as notable as the New York Times, scared me into a Galileo-guy (without his income), hiding-out, bruised and quite afraid, trying to figure out whether to write again, or not. That started in March 2017.
Now, age is catching up with me and my bucket list, unlike many others, includes a serious attempt at correcting rampant misinformation about what we currently call ADHD. Or, as I like to say, “putting the many pieces of ADHD information together to help you solve the puzzle.”
What is the dopamine dilemma of ADHD?
Teaser No 1. It is so misunderstood, but so clear if you do the reading and research I have done. It is, in a short sentence, that the ADHD brain dopamine system has both a downside and a huge upside. AND. The nonADHD brain dopamine system has a huge downside along with an important upside. The dilemma is: Which brainset is the “disorder”? And, what is the key to mitigating the dopamine downside of the ADHD brainset?
Teaser No. 2. If you read my 2013 book, or you hang around long enough here, you may find out why there is very little that can be done about the downside of the nonADHD brainset.
I am starting this publication with my Section entitled 2013 Book Discussion.
If you subscribe at any level (free first level), you will receive a Welcome Email from me that will contain a free downloadable, fully searchable pdf copy of my ground-breaking 2013 book “Adult ADD Factbook - The Truth About Adult Attention Deficit Disorder Updated June 2013.” It has not only stood the test of time, it is still ahead of its time. No joke. No one has challenged any of the conclusions noted in my book. But, they have challenged me.
If you do not receive the Welcome Email with its 2013 eBook attached to it, you can download it for free by visiting my 2013 book download page.
The 2013 Book Discussion section of this ADHD Explainer publication is the first step in my project to allow you to read, analyze, comment, critique and ask questions about what we currently call ADHD. I will do my best to keep up with responses to your comments. But, as you might expect, this will likely require a weekly newsletter and a weekly post of my responses to the categories of comments I receive that week. I may not be able to keep up with individual responses to all comments.
You will need to confirm your email address to be a subscriber (free or otherwise).
For those of you who would like to preview portions of my 2013 Book before subscribing, please visit my Think Twice About ADD website which contains links to both my paperback and Kindle versions at Amazon. Check my Videos to view interviews that cover important highlights from the 2013 Book.
The 2011 paperback is still on Amazon, so if you want to compare the two, you can. However, I recommend the 2013 edition which introduces the term “threat monitoring center” for the term “emotional brain.”
My plan is to quickly expand the ADHD Explainer with sections entitled Hot Topics, Sensory Sensitivity, Dx/Rx, NYT (New York Times) PsychWatch, Culture Genes? and It’s Personal.
I am clearly a newbie at this kind of platform. I cut my Internet teeth creating an individual, professional website starting in 2000. You know, old school, HTML. It still exists as I clean it up and archive most of it — DearShrink.com
Thank you for visiting! Take care, Ron
